Not just another app store

(Last updated: February 13, 2017)

At CES, Samsung announced their plans of bringing Samsung Apps to the US by Spring 2010. Their mobile store is currently only available in England, France and Italy. What makes this unique from all the existing app stores is that it is not just for mobiles. The applications at this store will be for televisions, printers, cameras and blu-ray players also! You can watch your favorite programs, play games, view photo galleries, tweet and do a lot more from your tv. Here is the presentation video.

Current mobile app stores include Apple’s App Store, Google’s Android Market, Microsoft’s Windows MarketPlace, Blackberry’s App World, Nokia’s OVI Store (the named service is no longer available) and Palm’s App Catalog (the named service is no longer available).

Another store which has not yet arrived in the US is the LG mobile application store. Motorola’s mobile store is also rumored to be launched this year. Their store website was live for a while before they took it down. You can find the leaked pics here.

Happy 2010 :) and exciting prospects

This year promises a lot of innovations and advancements in the technology world. I have summed up some of the ones I feel are most exciting.

3D Television

3D TV could be the new toy to crave for, this year. 3D will no longer be a cinema-only experience. This will take home entertainment to a whole new level. Sony, Panasonic, LG, Samsung and other TV manufacturers are expected to showcase their 3D TV’s at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from Jan 7-10.

Nexus One

This smartphone is rumored to be announced at the Android Press Gathering which will be held at Mountain View on Jan 5. It is currently being used by a bunch of Google staff.  Apparently, it comes with a 5 megapixel camera, 3.7 inch AMOLED display and a  super-fast Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (1GHz). When released to the public, the big question is: Will it be a strong competition for the Iphone? Time will tell.

Google Chrome OS

With Android OS making good progress on the smartphones front, Google’s foray into the world of PC-operating systems is sure to give Microsoft and Apple sleepless nights. Chrome OS is expected to be ready by the latter half of 2010 (which gives Windows 7 almost an year to establish itself in the marketplace). This will be an interesting battle.

Below is an excellent video to tell you what this OS is all about:

Meanwhile, here’s wishing you all a very happy, prosperous and healthy 2010. May the force be with you!
